Traditional booster systems often use fixed-speed pumps.
In a simple arrangement, the pump starts when pressure drops and stops after reaching a particular pressure level.
This can work, but it may result in:
Frequent starting and stopping
Pressure fluctuations
Higher starting current
Unnecessary high-speed operation
Mechanical stress
Less comfortable water pressure
Higher energy consumption under variable demand
A VFD changes the operating philosophy.
Instead of treating every demand condition as a full-load condition, the pump can match its output to the requirement.
This is particularly valuable in buildings where water consumption changes continuously.
